Born Mandisa Lynn Hundley near Sacramento, California, she began her musical journey singing in church. Her rise to fame came with her ninth-place finish on "American Idol" in 2006, where host Ryan Seacrest commended her as "a great spirit on the show."

Following her stint on the reality show, Mandisa released her debut album "True Beauty" in 2007, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Pop and Contemporary Gospel Album. She continued to release five more albums, including a Christmas album.

In 2014, Mandisa clinched a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for "Overcomer," marking a significant milestone in her career.
